It translates as "welcoming or beckoning cat". A raised right paw welcomes wealth and fortune. A raised left paw beckons customers. That's why Maneki Neko is often placed in restaurants and shops. In short, cats mean business ! During the recent recession, Lucky Cats with both paws raised became popular. You can probably guess the reason why.
